Google launches VR application "Audio Factory" to realize spatial audio guidance
Google introduced a Daydream VR application called Audio Factory to showcase their Spatial Audio Engine developed for VR. People call spatial audio "the second sense of VR," because it is a key element in maintaining a high level of immersion. All major VR platform vendors offer their own solutions in their SDKs, including Google.
Because in the VR world you can look around as you like, how to effectively guide users' attention has become a major challenge for most VR content developers. "Audio Factory" is an amazing demonstration of the importance of spatial audio to VR through a series of interactive environments. Although this application is primarily intended to show developers and game designers the importance of spatial audio design, this excellent experience is worth trying out for all Daydream users (remember to turn audio on).
Google first integrated spatial audio in the Cardboard SDK in January 2016, and then at last year’s I/O conference demonstrated their development of Spatial Audio Engine for VR. Google recently announced the Daydream 2.0 update, which further optimized audio, including real-time early reflection lighting, pre-computational space acoustics, and space environment baking.
Using a head-related transform function (HRTF), the SDK can simulate audio from a specific location to implement immersive audio effects and take the VR experience to a new level.
