China Mobile issued the first personal worker intelligence platform - "Nine days."
At the recently concluded China Mobile Global Partnership Conference, the company unveiled its first personal worker intelligence platform, "Nine Days." This innovative system represents a major step forward in integrating artificial intelligence into telecom operations and services.
According to Deng Chao, assistant director of the Big Data and IT Research Institute at China Mobile Research Institute, the "Nine Days" platform was developed over four years by an AI team led by Dr. Feng Junlan, a distinguished expert from the National Thousand Talents Program. Designed to support smart connections, smart operations, and smart services, the platform offers a range of foundational and advanced capabilities, including deep learning platforms, intelligent voice recognition, natural language processing, and facial image analysis. It also delivers smart customer service solutions, intelligent marketing robots, and network optimization tools, tailored for specific industry applications.
Currently, the platform is already being used across several China Mobile subsidiaries, including Smart Customer Service, Zhejiang's Deep Learning Platform, Shanghai's Intelligent Marketing Robot, and Jiangsu's Network Intelligence systems.
Unlike many AI platforms offered by internet companies, "Nine Days" is specifically tailored for the telecommunications industry, focusing on operators' core business areas—market operations, network management, and service delivery. It also targets vertical industries, offering end-to-end AI solutions driven by real-world applications. In addition, it provides open AI capabilities to developers and enterprises, allowing them to access these tools via remote APIs or local SDK deployments.
The long-term vision of the "Nine Days" platform is to seamlessly integrate into various industries, enabling AI to drive transformation and innovation across sectors. As Deng Chao explained, in the age of AI, China Mobile naturally plays three key roles: as a user of AI technology, as a core driver of the AI industry, and as a provider of AI services.
In line with this strategic vision, the platform focuses on three main application areas: smart market operations, smart connectivity, and smart services. These include intelligent marketing, network optimization, and customer service enhancements.
From a technical perspective, the platform is structured into three layers. The top layer includes product applications such as smart operations, smart connections, and smart services, covering areas like intelligent decision-making, network management, and customer engagement.
The middle layer consists of AI core competencies, divided into three categories based on data input types: speech and language processing, image and video analysis, and large-scale data analytics. These capabilities enable network optimization, user profiling, and data visualization.
Finally, the basic service layer is delivered through an open deep learning platform. According to Deng Chao, "Nine Days" is China Mobile’s first deep learning training platform powered by GPU clusters, offering three key advantages: support for heterogeneous computing, intelligent scheduling of multi-GPU tasks, and compatibility with popular open-source frameworks like TensorFlow, Kaldi, and Caffe.
From the user’s perspective, the platform also stands out for its ease of use, secure resource isolation, and fast model iteration. Users can complete their training tasks in just three steps: uploading data, submitting the model, and downloading the results.
