Dip smart technology claims to be AI, marketers believe that the concept of artificial intelligence is abused
According to a recent survey conducted by ResulTIck, nearly half of marketers believe that the concept of artificial intelligence has been over-hyped. This sentiment is reflected in the growing skepticism surrounding AI and other buzzwords in the marketing industry.
The survey asked respondents whether they thought five key concepts—artificial intelligence, big data, omnichannel, real-time marketing, and personalization—were being overused or misapplied. The results revealed that 47% of marketers feel "artificial intelligence" is being abused, while 31% think "big data" is overused. "Omnichannel" was seen as overheated by 23%, and 20% of marketers felt "real-time marketing" was also overdone. Only 14% believed "personalization" had been overused.
Interestingly, about 40% of marketers said they question the value of the term "artificial intelligence" when they hear it, while 34% admitted they were tired of hearing "big data." These findings highlight a growing fatigue with jargon that has become increasingly common in marketing discussions.
Additionally, 55% of marketers blamed marketing technology vendors for the misuse of these terms, suggesting that companies may be using them as buzzwords to sell their products. Another 38% pointed to journalists and bloggers for contributing to the overuse of such terminology.
As the marketing landscape continues to evolve, it's clear that some of the most popular concepts are now viewed with a mix of skepticism and frustration. Whether this trend will lead to more meaningful conversations or further confusion remains to be seen.
