Pet dog wireless sensing interaction system based on AVR kernel
**I. Project Overview**
**1.1 Introduction**
Environmental protection, as defined by Wikipedia, encompasses three main areas: the preservation of the natural environment, the safeguarding of the human living environment, and the protection of Earth’s living creatures. When it comes to protecting wildlife, especially animals like dogs, achieving harmony between humans and animals becomes crucial.
Dogs, being one of the closest animals to humans, bring joy, companionship, and even practical assistance in daily life. However, many pet owners struggle with understanding their pets’ true emotions and needs. This often leads to miscommunication and stress for both the owner and the dog. To address this issue, we have developed an AVR-based wireless sensing interaction system designed to help dog owners better understand their pets. By enhancing communication and emotional connection, this system aims to promote a more harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.
**1.2 Project Background / Motivation**
In today’s society, pets have become an integral part of many households. In China alone, the number of pets has surpassed 100 million, with one pet per three families on average. Pets are no longer just working animals or tools; they are now considered family members. However, with the growing number of pets, several challenges have emerged. Pet mental health is declining, the stray pet population is increasing, and disturbing videos of animal cruelty have been widely shared online. The root cause of these problems lies in the lack of proper understanding of pets’ psychological states, leading to neglect and poor care.
Additionally, when owners go out, they often cannot take their pets along, which creates anxiety about the pet’s well-being at home. Accidents can occur without anyone noticing.
As higher mammals, dogs experience a range of emotions similar to humans, but they cannot express them through words. For those without specialized knowledge, these behaviors are often overlooked. However, dogs do communicate through observable actions, such as body language, vocalizations, and movement patterns.
To raise awareness and improve the relationship between humans and pets, we are integrating this project with a popular social media platform—Weibo. Our goal is to develop an innovative, AVR-based wireless sensing system that allows real-time monitoring and interaction with pets, promoting a healthier and more empathetic relationship between owners and their animals.
**1.3 Project Feasibility Analysis**
After conducting a preliminary feasibility study, we believe this project is viable from multiple perspectives.
1. **Animal Behavioral Feasibility**: Animal behavior is a scientific field that studies how animals interact with their environment and each other. It includes communication, emotional expression, social behavior, learning, and reproduction. Dogs, as highly social animals, exhibit clear behavioral traits that have been extensively studied due to their close relationship with humans. Our team has collaborated with the Institute of Psychology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which provided valuable research materials and theoretical support. Based on their insights, we wrote an article titled “An Overview of Animal Behavior Analysis†(see Appendix), which serves as a reference for our system design.
2. **Electronic Engineering Feasibility**: Thanks to advancements in integrated circuit technology, microcontroller units (MCUs) used in embedded wireless modules are now low-power, low-cost, and compact. Additionally, MEMS-based three-axis accelerometers offer high sensitivity while maintaining small size. These components allow us to build wireless sensor nodes that are not only efficient but also comfortable for dogs to wear, occupying less than 8 square centimeters of space.
3. **Market Feasibility**: The estimated cost of this project is around 300 yuan. With over 100 million pet dogs in China and a rapidly growing pet market, there is significant potential for success. Moreover, this project represents a first-of-its-kind initiative globally, combining innovation with practicality. Its user-friendly design and focus on strengthening the bond between pet owners and their animals make it appealing to a wide audience.
