According to a report by KeyBanc analyst Brent Bracelin, Microsoft’s Azure cloud service not only increased its market share but also delivered strong financial results. In 2017, Azure generated $3.7 billion in revenue for Microsoft, marking nearly a doubling of its earnings in recent quarters. Analysts are optimistic about its future performance, predicting an 88% revenue growth for Azure in 2018.
While Amazon AWS still led the market, it wasn't without challenges. In the third quarter of 2017, AWS reported a 42% revenue increase, showing that it remained a major player. However, the growing competition from Microsoft and Google indicated that the cloud landscape was becoming more competitive.
Google also made progress during this period, with its market share rising from 10% to 12%. Despite this, Microsoft’s Azure stood out for offering a broader range of services, giving it a strategic advantage. The report emphasized that Azure’s comprehensive ecosystem and expanding capabilities were key factors in its success.
