Opening of new factory in Bulgaria, OSRAM accelerates towards “smart city”

On October 19, OSRAM officially launched its new facility in Bulgaria, marking a significant milestone in the company's global expansion. The plant, located in Plovdiv—a city rich in history and strategically positioned along the Belgrade-Istanbul railway—serves as a key gateway to major European markets. The new production site spans over 16,000 square meters and is equipped with advanced technology to manufacture a wide range of digital lighting solutions. These include LED light engine modules, traditional ballasts, LED drivers, sensors, and lighting control systems, all designed for smart buildings and urban environments. The facility is set to create around 900 local jobs in the coming months, contributing to regional economic growth. "By launching this new plant in Plovdiv, we are strengthening our ability to meet the rising demand for intelligent lighting solutions across Europe," said Dr. Stefan Kampmann, Chief Technology Officer at Osram Lighting. "This investment underscores our commitment to innovation and sustainability in the digital lighting sector." Construction of the plant began in March 2016, with a total investment of approximately 25 million euros. As part of OSRAM’s broader digital strategy, this facility will play a crucial role in the development, production, and distribution of electronic lighting accessories and systems. With its strategic location and cutting-edge capabilities, the new Bulgarian plant reinforces OSRAM’s position as a leader in smart, energy-efficient lighting solutions for the future.
