Opening of new factory in Bulgaria, OSRAM accelerates towards “smart city”

On October 19th, OSRAM officially launched its new facility in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, marking a significant milestone in the company's expansion into digital lighting solutions. The plant is strategically located along the main road, positioning it as a key hub for reaching major European markets. “This new plant in Plovdiv will play a crucial role in meeting the rising demand for smart lighting systems used in modern buildings and cities,” said Dr. Stefan Kampmann, Chief Technology Officer at Osram Lighting. “It reflects our commitment to innovation and growth in the digital lighting sector.” The facility, situated in the historic city of Plovdiv, lies at the crossroads of the Belgrade-Istanbul railway, making it an ideal gateway to Europe. With a production area spanning 16,000 square meters, the plant is equipped to manufacture a wide range of products, including LED light engine modules, traditional ballasts, LED drivers, sensors, and lighting control systems—key components for smart building applications. These products will be distributed across the European market, supporting the growing trend toward energy-efficient and intelligent lighting solutions. In the coming months, the plant is expected to create approximately 900 local jobs, contributing to the region’s economic development. The project, which began in March 2016 with an investment of around 25 million euros, is part of OSRAM’s broader digital strategy. As a key component of the company’s digital lighting division, the facility strengthens OSRAM’s position in the global market and reinforces its leadership in innovative lighting technologies. With this new plant, OSRAM continues to invest in the future of smart, connected lighting, ensuring it remains at the forefront of the industry.
