The accessory manufacturer Plugable said that due to Apple's "design decision", Thunderbolt 3 using the Texas Instruments control chip will not be able to establish communication with the MacBook Pro (late 2016).
It is reported that Plugable discovered the existence of this issue when it tested the compatibility of its own Thunderbolt 3 base product. They pointed out that their 2 Thunderbolt graphics adapters were found to be incompatible with the new MacBook Pro (non-Touch Bar models) during testing, which also forced them to postpone the launch of new products.
However, Plugable's flagship TBT3-UDV is compatible with the new MacBook Pro. Since this product uses a new generation of Texas Instruments controllers, this shows that compatibility issues are related to the old Texas Instruments chips.
Regardless of whether or not Plugable's findings are accurate, it seems unlikely that Apple will intentionally limit its products' support for older Thunderbolt 3 devices. The more likely scenario is that the chips used by Plugable do not follow Intel's standards.
