Maxim high-side switches increase throughput and channel density, reduce power consumption, and footprint

China, Beijing, May 12, 2015 . Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX14900E digital output switch for industrial automation applications with higher throughput, smaller footprint, and lower power consumption.

Compared with the existing solution, the eight-channel IC can significantly improve data processing speed by 70 times, reduce power consumption by 20% and occupy 40% of the board area, meeting the needs of today's terminal products for rapid, localization and miniaturization. The device is controlled by an 8-bit parallel interface or a standard serial peripheral interface (SPI), which can also be used for configuration and monitoring. Multiple devices can be daisy-chained to support more I/O ports through a single SPI interface, requiring only three isolators for all channels, further reducing cost, board space and power consumption. Serial mode includes Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) to ensure data integrity, and global and single-channel diagnostics enable remote system monitoring.

Maxim offers a complete reference design (MAXREFDES63#) and an evaluation (EV) board with specific prototyping capabilities. The relevant reference design size is only credit card size, including the MAX14900E, microcontroller, isolated I/O port, power supply, UART and USB ports, simplifying the final OEM product design and accelerating the evaluation process.

Main advantage

Low power consumption, high voltage: only 8mA (max) supply current for eight digital channels; wide supply voltage range of 10V to 36V compatible with 24V power supply for most factory systems.

Higher speed and drive capability: input-to-output delay of only 0.3μs (typ) / 0.8μs (max), push-pull mode supports switching rates up to 100KHz; on-resistance (determines static power) The key factor is only 85mΩ (typ) and 165mΩ (max); the device can drive current loads up to 850mA, allowing parallel connection of outputs for higher current drive capability.

High integration, low footprint: The tiny 48-pin, 7mm & TImes; 7mm QFN package significantly reduces board space.

Data integrity: Access to I/O through an eight-bit parallel port and single-channel and global diagnostics/monitoring via the SPI interface. The serial link includes CRC error checking to improve data link integrity.
