The safety problem on the eve of fully self-driving vehicles becomes a worry

According to recent reports from foreign media, a senior engineer from the Hyundai Group has stated that fully autonomous vehicles will be available by 2030, with no need for human input at all. This marks a significant shift in the automotive industry, as self-driving technology continues to evolve rapidly. Jaeyong Um, head of the Modern R&D team, emphasized that while the company is confident in the future of autonomous driving, there are still major concerns regarding safety. He acknowledged that public trust remains low and that new technological solutions must be developed quickly to address these issues. An image of a modern autonomous vehicle was shared, highlighting the progress being made in this field. The image was taken outside the R&D center in Seoul, where Um spoke publicly about the importance of collaboration between governments, academic institutions, researchers, and industry leaders. He called for a united effort to accelerate the development of safer, more reliable self-driving systems. Major automakers and tech companies are heavily investing in autonomous driving research. Hyundai Motor and Kia have already secured testing licenses in Nevada, showing their commitment to advancing this technology. By 2030, it's expected that autopilot systems will be highly advanced. Drivers won’t need to keep their hands on the wheel or even pay constant attention to the road—essentially allowing their minds to "switch off" during the journey. However, challenges remain. Issues such as cybersecurity threats, vehicle hacking, and remote control vulnerabilities continue to be major concerns for the industry. If these problems aren't resolved, the widespread adoption of self-driving cars could face serious obstacles. Um also stressed the need for further advancements in artificial intelligence to enable the full range of capabilities required for autonomous vehicles. Looking ahead, the ultimate vision for future vehicles is “ultra-high-speed interconnected smart vehicles.” He noted that car manufacturers are taking a gradual approach to developing autonomy, while IT companies are exploring disruptive technologies to achieve similar goals through different pathways. As both sectors push forward, the road to full autonomy seems closer than ever.
